The true professional studio camera
No other Hasselblad camera model is more suited for demanding studio work than the 555ELD. Its sturdy design and integral motor provide reliable and comfortable operation. You can release the camera for single shots as well as sequences of more than one picture per second. Thanks to the motor drive the camera will always be wound and ready for your next exposure.
You do not even have to be tied to the camera when releasing it. Using the IR Release unit that attaches to the camera's front release ports and the IR Remote control, you can operate the camera from distances up to 10 m (33').
Improvements and new features have brought the successful EL camera concept several steps further. A new mirror suspension similar to that of Hasselblad's latest space camera models, considerably prolongs the working-life of the mirror mechanism. And a new coating of the camera body interior reduces the stray-light level to an absolute minimum, enhancing the image contrast even further.

The perfect platform for digital backs
The precision made Hasselblad lenses, the efficient internal stray-light protection and the rigid magazine mount create the necessary conditions for the use of digital backs. The vibration-free operation is essential when using multi-shot and scanning digital backs as even the slightest movement of the camera will result in a loss of image sharpness. But the 555ELD also has additional features uniquely designed for digital imaging.
To facilitate the mounting and handling of digital backs, Hasselblad has developed a new standard which will be introduced by all leading manufacturers on their digital backs for the 555ELD.
Databus connections on the camera's magazine mount interface directly with corresponding connections on the digital back, thus eliminating the need of an external cord between the camera and the back.
Furthermore, the camera features a unique dual release system with two separate release ports on the camera front. One is used for conventional photography on normal film. The other one activates the digital back via the databus connections. Using a single-shot digital back with memory unit and power pack, you can freely work on location even with the camera hand-held. You simply focus and compose your image on the camera's bright Acute-Matte D focusing screen and release the exposure from the camera
